Jeff Kummer was diagnosed with Ataxia Telangiectasia (AT), a rare neurological disease, when he was just 13 years old. This genetic disease affects balance, coordination and speech, but Jeff has defied the odds. While most who suffer from this disease do not live past their late teens, Jeff is now in his late twenties and expected to enjoy a long life. Click for more.

Donald L. Jernigan, Ph.D.
President/CEO

Donald Jernigan, Ph.D., is president/CEO of Adventist Health System. He formerly was executive vice president of Adventist Health System and chief executive officer of Florida Hospital and the Florida Division, executive vice president of Adventist Health System and chief executive officer of the Multi-State Hospital Division, president of Tennessee Christian Medical Center and Adventist Health System’s Tennessee/Georgia region. Jernigan also previously served as senior vice president of Adventist Health System and president of Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, Texas.

Jernigan has a doctor of philosophy degree in physical chemistry from Baylor University and a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Texas-Arlington. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives, chairman of the Board of Florida Hospital, and board member of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission.

Jernigan has also served on the boards of United Way and several chambers of commerce, as well as many other healthcare boards.

Lars D. Houmann
President/CEO, Florida Hospital and Florida Division

Lars Houmann is currently serving as the president/CEO of Florida Hospital, as well as the Florida Division which includes Adventist Health System’s seventeen hospitals in Florida. He previously served as Executive Vice President and COO for Florida Hospital. Houmann has been with Florida Hospital since 1993 and has served in various executive capacities during that time.

Houmann graduated from Columbia Union College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He received his Master of Healthcare Administration degree from Loma Linda University. Houmann is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and serves the community through volunteering with various organizations.

Richard K. Reiner
President/CEO, Multi-State Division

Rich Reiner serves as president/chief executive officer of the Multi-State Division. In this capacity, he provides leadership to the twenty hospitals in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, Colorado and Texas. He chairs the Board of Centura Health, a joint operating company for the four Adventist facilities in the Denver area. He also provides executive leadership to managed care initiatives for all of the AHS markets.

Reiner previously provided executive leadership to the Florida Division of AHS and served as board chair to the ten hospitals located outside of the metropolitan Orlando area. He received his degree in business administration from Union College. Reiner has participated in many community groups, including two years as board chair for Junior Achievement of Central Florida.

Terry D. Shaw
Chief Financial Officer

Terry Shaw is chief financial officer for Adventist Health System. Prior to this appointment, Shaw served as senior vice president/chief financial officer for the Florida Division of Adventist Health System. He also served in the following capacities within Florida Hospital: vice president, assistant vice president, and director of DRG Management.

Shaw received his bachelor of science degree in accounting and computer science from Southern Adventist University, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Florida. He is a member of the Hospital Financial Management Association, American College of Healthcare Executives and several other professional and service organizations.

Brent G. Snyder, Esq. 
Chief Information Officer

Brent Snyder is chief information officer for Adventist Health System. He previously served as chief financial officer of Adventist Health System’s Multi-State Division, a position he held from 1997-2002 when he assumed responsibility for Information Services. Snyder, who formerly served as vice president and chief finance officer of Tennessee Christian Medical Center, has 30 years experience with Adventist Health System. He also previously served as chief financial officer of Takoma Adventist Hospital in Greeneville, Tennessee and chief financial officer of Florida Hospital Heartland.

Snyder has an associate’s degree in computer science, a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in accounting and management from Southern Adventist University, a master’s degree in business from the University of South Carolina, and a doctorate in jurisprudence from the Nashville School of Law. He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

John R. Brownlow
Senior Vice President, Managed Care

John Brownlow is Senior Vice President of Managed Care for Adventist Health System. He provides leadership for managed care relationships, strategy, contracting and contract management for Adventist Health System hospitals, ancillary services and affiliated physician practices. He has served in various executive managed care capacities within Adventist Health System since 1991, including development and leadership of several physician/hospital organizations (PHO). Brownlow has also held financial management positions in the long-term health care field.

He has bachelor degrees from Southern Adventist University in both accounting and long-term health care and received a masters in business management and organization from the University of Colorado.

Brownlow is a board member of the Florida Association of Managed Care Professionals and chairs its managed care legislative committee..

Loran D. Hauck, M.D.
Senior Vice President/CMO, Office of Clinical Effectiveness

Loran Hauck, MD, is senior vice president of clinical effectiveness and chief medical officer for Adventist Health System. He is responsible for providing physician leadership, oversight and direction for multiple Adventist Health System Corporate Clinical Initiatives. Hauck previously served as president and chief executive officer of Sunbelt Medical Management and medical director of Gordon Hospital. From 1989-1995, Hauck was medical director for Loma Linda Faculty Medical Group, Inc.

Hauck received his pre-medical education from Walla Walla College and Atlantic Union College. He graduated with honors from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Robert R. Henderschedt
Senior Vice President, Administration

Robert Henderschedt is senior vice president of administration for Adventist Health System. Prior to this position, he served as executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio.

Formerly, Henderschedt served four years as vice president at Loma Linda University Medical Center and for five years as assistant administrator and controller at Tidewater Memorial Hospital in Tappahannock, Virginia.

Henderschedt received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Columbia Union College and his graduate studies in healthcare administration at Loma Linda University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a senior member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Sandra K. Johnson
Senior Vice President, Business Development, Risk Management and Compliance

Sandra Johnson is senior vice president of business development, risk management, and chief compliance officer for Adventist Health System. Prior to joining Adventist Health System in 1997, Johnson served as president and chief executive officer of American Medical HealthCare, in Orlando, Florida. From 1991-1995, she served as vice president of managed care and business development for Florida Hospital. Johnson also served as vice president of Glendale Adventist Medical Center from 1987-1991.

Johnson received her master’s degree in business administration from Rollins College and a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in accounting from Andrews University. She is a member of the Council of Ethical Organizations, the Health Care Compliance Association, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Managers, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, founding member of the Privacy Officers Association, as well as a member of several other community and professional organizations.

Paul C. Rathbun
Senior Vice President/SFO, Finance

Paul C. Rathbun is senior vice president/senior finance officer for Adventist Health System. He is responsible for Corporate Reimbursement, Internal Audit, and various other corporate finance functions. He also provides leadership in the coordination of the external audit, financial reporting, and chairing the finance committees of three of the company’s regional hospitals and the long term care division.

Previously, Rathbun has served as chief financial officer for two national long-term care companies, Skilled Healthcare Group and Life Care Centers of America, Inc., and two HCA hospitals in the state of Florida. Prior to his service in the healthcare industry, Rathbun was a director in the healthcare audit practice of Price Waterhouse in Florida.

Rathbun has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Adventist University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Lewis A. Seifert
Senior Vice President, Finance

Lewis Seifert is senior vice president of finance for Adventist Health System and senior finance officer for Florida Hospital. In this role, he provides administrative oversight to the hospital CFOs and chairs the finance boards of the ten hospitals in the division located outside the metropolitan Orlando market.

In addition to providing financial leadership to Florida Hospital Healthcare System, and the Medicare reimbursement function at Florida Hospital, Seifert also provides leadership to the Revenue Cycle Departments at Adventist Health System, including Patient Financial Services, Case Management, Health Information Management and Charge Description Master Support.

Seifert had an extensive history of financial leadership in healthcare in Central Florida before joining Florida Hospital in 2000, including experience as the chief financial officer for Winter Park Memorial Hospital and the Central Florida Division of HCA.

Gary C. Skilton
Senior Vice President/Treasurer

Gary Skilton is senior vice president and treasurer for Adventist Health System. He formerly served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Adventist Living Centers in Warrenville, Illinois, vice president/treasurer of Adventist Health System/North and Adventist Health System/NEMA, and director of corporate accounting and director of tax and internal audit for Warner Electric Brake and Clutch Company, Inc. in South Beloit, Illinois. In addition, he worked for five years in public accounting.

Skilton has a master’s degree in management with concentrations in finance, marketing, business policy and international business from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting emphasis from Andrews University. He is a certified public accountant, a certified management accountant and a certified treasury professional. He is a member of the Association of Financial Professionals, the Institute of Management Accountants, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and Financial Executives International.

Ted Hamilton, M.D.
Vice President, Medical Mission

Ted Hamilton, M.D., is vice president of medical mission for Adventist Health System. He previously served as senior medical officer for Florida Hospital. From 1987-89, he was executive director of the Loma Linda Faculty Medical Group. Hamilton also has managed care experience with Georgia BCBS and Tennessee Medicaid.

Hamilton graduated from Loma Linda School of Medicine and completed his family practice training at Florida Hospital. Following several years of private practice, he directed the Florida Hospital family practice residency from 1980-87. He obtained his MBA from Rollins College Crummer School in 1989. He chaired the board of the Orlando Healthcare Center for the Homeless for several years and currently serves on the board of Shepherd’s Hope, an outpatient program serving the working poor.

Donald G. Jones
Vice President, Human Resources

Donald Jones is vice president of human resources for Adventist Health System. Prior to this role, he was director of benefits and compensation. From 1990-2001, Jones served in various human resource leadership positions at Florida Hospital including associate director. Jones has also served as a vice president for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Risk Management Services.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in management from Walla Walla College and holds the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation from the Wharton School of Management at the University of Pennsylvania. Jones provides leadership in various church and community organizations.

Richard Morrison
Vice President, Government Affairs

Richard Morrison is the vice president of government affairs for Adventist Health System and the regional vice president of the Florida Division for government and regulatory affairs. He is responsible for developing and coordinating public and regulatory policy at the local, state and federal level.

Morrison has over 30 years of health care experience in a wide variety of areas including strategic planning, marketing, mergers and acquisitions, managed care, compliance as well as government and regulation. He has been appointed to various state wide advisory committees by the Governor of Florida, chairs the Family Practice Teaching Hospital Council and currently chairs numerous boards in the local community ranging from early learning to emergency medicine.

Morrison graduated from Florida State University, Phi Beta Kappa, and did his graduate work in clinical psychology.

Benjamin F. Reaves, DMin
Vice President, Spiritual Ministries

Benjamin Reaves, D.Min., serves as vice president of mission and ministries for Adventist Health System, and is responsible for helping enhance the mission priority and performance of the corporation.

Reaves previously served as general field secretary for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Prior to that, he served as president of Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama for 11 years. He also formerly served as chairman of the Department of Religion and Theology at Oakwood College, professor of preaching and urban ministry at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, campus pastor for college youth at Andrews University and pastored for 11 years in the Lake Region Conference.

Reaves is an ordained minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and holds a doctorate of ministry in church and society from Chicago Theological Seminary, a master’s degree in church history and a master of divinity in practical theology from Andrews University, and a bachelor of arts in theology from Oakwood College. He has served as Chairman of the Members of the United Negro College Fund, and vice-chair of the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education. Since 1989 he has been an annually featured speaker on the Chicago Sunday Evening Club Television program.

Womack H. Rucker, Jr.
Vice President, Corporate Relations

Womack Rucker, Jr., has served as vice president of Adventist Health System since 1990. He previously served as vice president of health services for Meharry Medical College and chief executive officer of Meharry Hubbard Hospital, both in Nashville, Tennessee.

His administrative career began at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, Ohio, where he served as assistant director of personnel and administrative assistant to the president. He later served as vice president of Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Maryland and president of Riverside Adventist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rucker received his master’s degree in hospital and health administration from Xavier University and completed an administrative residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He also completed the Crummer School of Business Management Program at Rollins College. Rucker is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He is an international consultant and conducts seminars both nationally and internationally on guest relations topics with emphasis on customer loyalty.

David P. Singleton
Vice President, Investments / Chief Investment Officer

David Singleton serves as Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Adventist Health System. Prior to joining AHS in 2008, he had 23 years of financial markets experience and worked as a Managing Director in SunTrust Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking Division in charge of the Bank’s not-for-profit healthcare business. Previous management assignments included responsibility for Middle Market & Corporate Banking for SunTrust’s Eastern Virginia Region in Norfolk, Virginia, serving as the Senior Regional Credit Administrator for Eastern Virginia, and managing the Region’s Special Assets Division.

Singleton received his BS from LSU, and completed graduate programs at The Banking School of the South at LSU and The College of William and Mary in Virginia where he received his MBA degree. He holds active NASD licenses, Series 7 and 63, for Florida, Virginia, Maryland, & Washington, DC.

T. L. Trimble, Esq.
Vice President, Legal Services

T.L. Trimble has served as the vice president of legal services for Adventist Health System since 1982. She previously served as staff counsel with First Federal of Broward in Lauderdale, Florida. Prior to that, Trimble was a member of the comptroller’s office of the State of Tennessee appointed to undertake audits pursuant to the Tennessee Governmental/Entity Review Law and worked as a legislative aide to the Senate Ways and Means Committee of the Tennessee Legislature.

Trimble received a juris doctor from Stetson University and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Southern Adventist University. She is licensed to practice law in the states of Florida and Tennessee.

Amy L. Zbaraschuk
Vice President/Controller, Finance

Amy L. Zbaraschuk serves as the vice president and corporate controller for Adventist Health System. Previously, she served as director of accounting and director of finance. Zbaraschuk is a graduate of the Florida Hospital Financial Management Program where she served as a resident before joining the corporate office.

Zbaraschuk received her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Florida and her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Andrews University.
