Metroplex and Scott & White Announce Intent to Collaborate
9/7/2007

Metroplex Health System and Scott & White have signed a Letter of Understanding to form a collaborative working relationship that will offer many benefits to employees, the local community, and Metroplex physicians.

“This relationship will help us increase healthcare options for the greater Killeen community,” said Ken Finch, President/CEO, Metroplex Health System. "We will work together to develop quality improvement and patient safety plans which continue to support the development of Metroplex in serving our growing community. This is an exciting venture that we feel will be warmly welcomed by the communities we serve."

The Letter of Understanding is a good faith intention to enter negotiations toward a definitive agreement. The letter calls for Scott & White to acquire a one-third interest in Metroplex Health System and for Metroplex to continue to oversee management of all facilities in their health system. The letter also outlines Metroplex’s intent to retain mission-oriented healthcare. As a next step toward this agreement, both parties will begin the “due diligence” phase, allowing both organizations to further explore the details of the arrangement. Definitive agreements should be complete by early 2008.

This relationship will continue to help Metroplex grow and expand. There are no plans for downsizing or reductions in staff. Metroplex employees will continue to be on the Metroplex payroll with the same compensation and benefits they currently enjoy. Rollins Brook Community Hospital, its employees and the community will reap the same benefits from this affiliation as anticipated in Killeen.
